“Aaron Rodgers Didn’t Want to Have Shadow of Tom Brady”: NFL Twitter Theorizes Jets QB Was Scared of Joining the Patriots
Aaron Rodgers is a New York Jet, but reports recently indicated that he could have been a Patriot. However, Rodgers rejected the trade leading NFL Twitter to some interesting speculation. Playing in New England has a different atmosphere to it, and it definitely means something different if you’re the quarterback. Playing quarterback means following in Tom Brady’s footsteps. There’s no getting around it.
Cam Newton and Mac Jones didn’t have as much pressure on their shoulders when they took over because fans knew that the Pats were in a rebuilding phase. Cam was trying to revive his career and Mac Jones came in as a rookie. They had no expectations. However, the story would definitely be different if the Patriots tried to bring in a star, particularly an experienced star and rival like Aaron Rodgers. You can only imagine how different things would be.
NFL Twitter theorizes about Aaron Rodgers playing after Tom Brady
Per WAFN’s Craig Craton, Rodgers was given the chance to join the New York Jets, but he vetoed the trade. “When Aaron Rodgers heard it [the Patriots’ offer], his agent said no we ain’t playing for New England, we want to be a Jet,” Carton said via The Carton Show.

Ultimately, we have no way of verifying whether this information is true or not, but it does make for some interesting speculation. How would head coach Bill Belichick have fared with Rodgers under his wing? Belichick is the greatest coach of all time, and with a generational talent like Rodgers, he would have been salivating thinking of how he could run the offense.
However, with the reports coming out that Rodgers vetoed a trade to the Patriots, fans were quick to call him out. Notably, they were convinced that Rodgers didn’t want to play in Brady’s shadow.
Makes sense, he didn’t want to have shadow of Brady.

Other fans simply trolled him for picking the Jets over the Patriots.
There’s a reason Aaron Rodgers is retiring with less rings than Eli Manning/Big Ben
15 years from now he will not be considered Top 5

How would Rodgers have fared following Brady?
Stepping into the shoes of a man who won six titles, and multiple MVPs, led a culture of change in the city, and became the face of the franchise for 20 years, is quite difficult.
Adjusting to the spotlight would have been tough for Rodgers. Additionally, while it’s crazy to think of the Bellichick-Rodgers duo, there are some difficulties there. Would Rodgers have fit into Belichick’s culture, and would he have adjusted to the “Patriot way”?
It’s something to consider before immediately jumping at the potential positives from the coaching duo. Rodgers is somewhat of a diva and Belichick definitely doesn’t like diva personalities. Of course, everything will remain speculation until Rodgers leaves the Jets for the Patriots.
