However, even at that moment, he knew how lucky he was to stay alive. Robinson counts himself incredibly blessed that he made it even after getting hit by two bullets, while people can easily die from a single one. He received special attention from the Commanders’ medical team, for which he is immensely grateful.
“I knew I was lucky to be alive. We’re talking about gunshots. People die from gunshots. One shot. Anywhere. It can be in the strangest place on your body, and you can die from it. So, to take two, there’s no way I can think that I’m not blessed to make it out of there,” Robinson said, per the Commanders’ official website.
The second-year running back also showed appreciation towards his teammates who helped him get over that phase. “I appreciate how much my teammates were there for me. I needed them more than they needed me at the time. When I showed up to the practice facility with the Oreos in my hand, I wanted them to know that I was still open to what we had started working on, what we had started building and that I was still committed to the relationships that we had started forming over the summer,” Robinson said. He missed the first four games of the 2022 season and made his debut for the Commanders in Week 5.
Brian Robinson Played 12 games in His Rookie Season After Recovering from Gunshot Wounds
Since making his debut against the Tennessee Titans, Robinson has slowly but surely grown in stature as a prominent running back in the NFL. In his rookie season, Robinson played 12 games after recovering from the gunshot wounds, among which he started in 9.
Robinson recorded as many as 205 carries alongside 797 rushing yards. However, his final offensive output left a lot to be desired, with him only recording 2 rushing touchdowns throughout the season. In addition to this, the 24-year-old had nine receptions for 60 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. The Commanders would hope that he returns to his best form in the 2023/24 season leaving behind all the scars that he had to face in the previous year.
