Former Green Bay Packer and NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre received $1.1M from Mississippi welfare funds for speaking engagements from a Non-Profit. And while he was in a P.R mess last year, the story died after he repaid $500,000 and vowed to pay the rest. But he is still to fulfill that promise.

Favre, 51, promised to pay the remaining portion of $1.1 million he received from the Mississippi Community Education Center, whose former leader has now been indicted in a welfare embezzlement scheme.

Brett Favre is yet to pay over a million dollars.
Brett Favre had previously claimed that he was not aware that the money he received was intended to help poor families. So in return, the HOF’er agreed to return all the money after a state audit found the non-profit paid him to promote a federally-funded anti-poverty initiative called Families First for Mississippi.
He made an initial payment of $500K to put the onset of public questioning to rest. But Mississippi today recently reported that Favre is yet to repay the rest of the money, even though he promised to do so. Favre is yet to respond to them.
I think it would be really to ask @BrettFavre what’s up with this?https://t.co/YGausSVz7A https://t.co/yj9kclE27I

“My agent is often approached by different products and brands for me to appear in one way or another,” Favre tweeted when the issue arose last May. “This request was no different, and I did numerous ads for Families First.” But to everyone’s surprise, the agent denied that statement last week.
1/4 My agent is often approached by different products and brands for me to appear in one way or another. This request was no different, and I did numerous ads for Families First.

2/4 I have never received monies for obligations I didn’t meet. To reiterate Auditors White’s statement, I was unaware that the money being dispersed was paid for out of funds not intended for that purpose, and because of that I am refunding the full amount back to Mississippi.

3/4 I have spent my entire career helping children through Favre 4 Hope donating nearly $10 million to underserved and underprivileged children in Mississippi and Wisconsin.

4/4 It has brought a ton of joy to my life, and I would certainly never do anything to take away from the children I have fought to help! I love Mississippi and I would never knowingly do anything to take away from those that need it most.

Last week, Favre’s longtime agent, Bus Cook, told Mississippi Today that “he had nothing to do with Favre’s contract” with the Mississippi Community Education Center, a nonprofit that received (and spent) millions in welfare funds from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
The audit disclosing Favre’s payment was released months after a former Mississippi Department of Human Services director and five others were indicted for allegedly embezzling roughly $4 million.
Brett Favre still resides in southern Mississippi. While he has denied any and all allegations that he didn’t do any work, he is still to do good on his assurance. Brett Favre is yet to comment on the matter. The next episode of his podcast will be highly anticipated.
