“He’s Doing the Same Job As Nick Saban”: Peter King Admired Deion Sanders For His Coaching Acumen, Minutes Ahead Of USC Matchup

Deion Sanders and his team once again kept the Buffs fans at the edge of their seats when they were locked in to pull a 27-point comeback in the second half of the game. Although they fell short by seven points in the end, but their resilience won hearts. However, just hours ahead of the matchup Peter King was vocal about how Coach Prime is doing the same job as Nick Saban.

In his appearance at The Rich Eisen Show, veteran sportswriter Peter King had nothing but praises for Coach Prime and the program that he was able to establish in just a few months’ time. The toughness of the team was very much visible in their game against USC when they switched gears to bulldoze the Trojan defense.

Peter King Likens Coach Prime To Nick Saban

Deion Sanders is just five weeks into his D1 coaching career with the Colorado Buffaloes but his otherworldly influence and confidence have easily made the Buffs the center of college sports. So much so that in just a few weeks into his first season, Prime is garnering comparison from legendary coaches like Nick Saban who has won seven national championships to cement his spot among the elites.

“Deion Sanders, who for years was the most interesting story in sports, is again the most interesting story in sports in about his sixth iteration as a sportsman,” King said. “So I never really thought that I would say that Deion Sanders, he’s doing the same job as Nick Saban and he’s doing it incredibly well.”

Deion Sanders is most certainly the biggest story in college sports to the point that he is breaking back-to-back viewership records with a team that was 1-11 the previous season. Being a mesmerizing figure in sports for more than 30 years, Prime has conquered every aspect of sports for a long time and his coaching career is proving to be one big chunk of it.

Peter King With an Interesting Deion Sanders Anecdote From 1992

It is not the first time that the 66-year-old sportswriter has been left in awe of the mammoth sports figure. In his chat with the guest host Suzy Shuster during the interview, King narrated an interesting story about the time he met Deion Sanders in 1992 when the athletic beast was playing for the Atlanta Braves, while at the same time awaiting a new contract from the Atlanta Falcons.

“I actually went to his hotel room in the Downtown Hilton in Pittsburgh and I knocked on his door,” King stated. …”He comes to the door, no shirt on, glistening with sweat with a bat in his hand, and he was taking practice swings in front of the mirror and he was talking about how I got to get out of this slump.”

It was clear in Peter King’s eyes how big of a personality Deion Sanders has been in the world of sports since the inception of his career. Be it his interest in playing multiple sports on a professional level or turning around a D1 team with no hopes of winning. Deion Sanders certainly deserves every bit of praise for what he has done for the team and the community. But the question remains how long will it take for his team to get back in their winning form after two back-to-back losses?
