After having commented that Matthew Stafford was a “level up” from Jared Goff, Michael Brockers was shockingly traded to the Detroit Lions. And one of the first things Brockers did was find his old and new quarterback to apologize.

The Rams traded Jared Goff, 2 first-round picks and a third-round pick to Detroit for star QB Matthew Stafford. “Is [adding Stafford] a level up?” Brockers said following the trade. “In my heart, deeply, just understanding what [Stafford] brings, it’s a level up [over Goff]. It’s a level up.”

Brock also added, “I feel like just watching him over his career, seeing the comebacks that he’s had, seeing so much of the numbers that he’s had, we’re just expecting that to just do better when he comes to the Rams. We expect that to match well with what we do. We feel like, with his move, this will be the turning point to where we can just win the big game.”

Michael Brockers apologized to Jared Goff after his comment

Brockers clearly didn’t expect the comment to go viral like it did. In a recent interview after being traded, he added that he instantly texted Goff that he meant no ill will to his former, and now new quarterback.

“I was really just trying to boost up the move that the team was doing and trying to make sure, boost up the fan base,” Brockers said Monday. “Don’t think it was anything against Jared. I even had to go text Jared away from the camera, stuff like that, just man-to-man, just, man, bro, I did not mean it to go like that. I didn’t mean what I said.  As a man, you just know I respect you.”

When Michael Brockers came in to sign his new deal, he revealed that he spoke with Jared Goff again and clarified his intentions behind his comment. And Jared was quick to forgive his teammate and move on.

“I love Brock, man. I know how that s— … I’m sorry, excuse me, I know how that stuff goes on those TMZ interviews and sometimes that happens. But that guy, he’s my guy. I love Brock. He reached out to me very quickly after that and no ill will. We’re all good and moving forward,” Goff said.

Jared Goff and Michael Brockers will both be crucial in turning the team around after a string of dismal years. With a new and refreshing Coaching staff bringing a reformed culture to motor city, the Detroit Lions will be one of the most intriguing stories to look out for in 2021
