Although he had pure intentions, Ryan Fitzpatrick sent a message to Alex Smith that he would later call “the worst text” he ever sent out.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, commonly referred to as “Fitzmagic”, is an all time NFL fan favorite. Known for his glorious beard and wild career which has seen him suit up for 8 teams, Fitzpatrick recently signed with the Washington Football Team (his 9th team).
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing Alex Smith and Fitzpatrick together in Washington given that Smith announced his retirement yesterday. However, the pair apparently have had a rather unlucky interaction in the past.
Appearing on the “Green Light Podcast”, Fitzpatrick told the story of the time he texted Smith after his horrific leg injury in 2018.
“The single worst text I’ve ever sent out went to Alex,” Fitzpatrick explained. “I said ‘Hey, Alex. Just wanted to let you know they’ll fix you up and you’ll feel as good as new. I’m out here and I don’t feel any pain from my injury three years later.’”
“And I sent it and felt good about it, and he then said ‘Well, mine might be a little more complicated.’ 17 surgeries later and the story of what he had to overcome, I felt like the biggest a**hole ever.”
Obviously, he meant nothing malicious, but it was understandably still an awkward exchange.
