Tom Brady will once again play in CapitalOne’s “The Match” and will face the 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers this time around. Brady’s opponent last year was Peyton Manning, who made a funny comment about Tom Brady’s Super Bowl rings ahead of the match on July 6th.

This year will be the 4th edition of the event, and it will feature Brady and his teammate, Phil Mickelson, playing together for the second time. Last year, Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods bested the duo and won the game.

The duo, one of them the oldest QB to win a Super Bowl and the other the oldest to win a major golf championship, will take on another NFL-Golfer pair. Their opponents this year are Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and golf phenom Bryson DeChambeau, who are actually the favorites.

Peyton Manning said that Tom Brady could have had 11 Super Bowl rings if it wasn’t for his mother Olivia Manning

Peyton Manning may not be a part of the Match this year but is still involved ahead of the event. During an appearance on The Match: Prediction Show, Manning made an important observation regarding Brady’s seven career Super Bowl wins.

“If it wasn’t for my mother, Olivia Manning, he’d have 11 of ’em,” Peyton said of Brady.Brady lost twice 2 Eli Manning in the Super Bowl and thrice to Peyton in the AFC Championship game.

Eli Manning won Super Bowl 42 and 46 while being underdogs in both, and it haunts Brady to this day. The Patriots went 18-0 through the regular season and the playoffs in 2007 but lost in the ultimate game of the season. The Patriots lost to the 5th seed Giants 17-14, which included a late game-winning drive by Manning. The former Patriots signal-caller even said he’d give up 2 rings if it meant going 19-0 that season.

Peyton Manning beat Brady thrice in the AFC Championship game and went on to win in 2 of the 3 Super Bowl appearances. Peyton implied that Brady’s Patriots would have won Super Bowl XLI (over the Bears) and Super Bowl 50 (over the Panthers).

Regardless of the details, it’s pretty clear that Tom Brady would have had a few more rings on his fingers if it wasn’t for Eli and Peyton Manning.
