Tom Brady

Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes are two of the top quarterbacks in the league, perhaps the NFL counterparts to Olympians Katie Ledecky and Ariarne Titmus.

The two Olympians went head to head in three epic battles in the women’s 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyle events at the Tokyo Olympics. Titmus, representing Australia, got the better of American Katie Ledecky in the 200m and 400m, but in the longest event, Ledecky retained her dominance.

Brady and Mahomes are no Olympians, but their battles in the NFL have always been entertaining to watch, two of them being in the postseason. So, is there a comparison to be made between the two of the greatest women athletes and these star quarterbacks? Some fans believe so.

Are Tom Brady And Patrick Mahomes The NFL Equivalents Of Katie Ledecky And Ariarne Titmus? Shannon Sharpe Says To Wait Till 2024 And 2028

As we all know, Tom Brady is probably the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL. He’s won the Super Bowl seven times, more than any franchise, and he’s still somehow playing at the age of 43.

Brady has accomplished it all. He’s the old guy trying to defend his throne against the young hot-shot in Patrick Mahomes. So far, Brady’s been pretty successful.

Mahomes has had an incredible start to his NFL career, shattering several passing records and even winning a Super Bowl in just his second season. However, when he’s gone head to head with Brady in the postseason, it hasn’t exactly ended well.

In the AFC championship game in 2019, Brady and the Pats would beat Mahomes’ Chiefs in a thrilling 37-31 overtime victory. Then, this past season, Brady and the Buccaneers would upstage Mahomes and the Chiefs 31-9 in a Super Bowl blowout.

So, yes, maybe there are some comparisons to be made. Ledecky has been in the Olympics multiple times and Titmus is in the early stages of her career. However, both athletes are incredibly young. Ledecky is only 24 while Titmus is 20. They have several battles ahead of them.

Further, Titmus has shown she can hold her own again with her victories in the 200m and 400m. Ledecky’s dominance in the 800m continued, but that doesn’t mean she’s leagues ahead.

That’s why Shannon Sharpe wanted to wait a bit before placing Ledecky vs. Titmus on the same level as Brady vs. Mahomes. That’s not to say that one rivalry is better than the other, but just that there are different circumstances to both and they’re different kinds of rivalries, both still mostly being developed.

In fact, you can argue that Brady vs. Mahomes is the lesser of the two given that they’ve faced off against each other less, and they play in the NFL as opposed to the Olympics.
