Colorado Buffaloes have undeniably given away a lot of points in their seven games so much so that it fails to match the hype created by Deion Sanders and son Shedeur. On one hand, where Shedeur continues to remain consistent with his offense the defense is considered the worst in FBS.

According to revealed stats by the NCAA, Coach Prime’s Buffs fall last in yards allowed per game out of 130 FBS teams. Buffs have so far relied on their offense to win the games. While the offense led by Shadeur is scoring 34.4 points and covering about 432 yards per game, their defense is apparently throwing cold water on all the hard work.
Prime’s Buffs Defense Ranks Last Among 130 Teams
Deion Sanders is getting constant praise for turning the Colorado Buffs into a better team last season. But it’s also no secret that it’s his offense that has been earning them wins this season. Shadeur has already been a revelation. But their defensive showing has been nothing short of a disgrace. Though the defense has somewhat improved from the disappointing last season, they are still inconsistent. Coach Prime has been criticized for not focusing on defense and some have even said that he is incapable of creating strong disciplined defenses.
This season the Buffs have allowed 473.7 yards per game and 35.9 points. It is a big improvement from 509.8 yards and 45.5 points of the last season. But these numbers still put them dead last in yards allowed out of 130 FBS teams.

If we compare them to other teams they have played, Oregon is at 56 with 217 YPG and USC is at 94 with 243 YPG. Even Stanford and Colorado State are above Buffs at 129th and 128th position respectively. All these teams have allowed fewer YPG than Prime’s team. Looks like Deion has some decisions to make in the next transfer portal.
Fans Want Prime to Take Tough Decisions and Fire DC Kelly
Buffs’ sudden defensive collapse at the hands of lowly placed Stanford was not something Prime or any Buffs fan had anticipated. They were leading 29-0 at the end of the first half when they gave up 19 points in the 3rd quarter before losing by 43-46 in OT.

Warning signs were there. After an embarrassing loss, fans weren’t shy to call out Deion’s defensive coordinator Charles Kelly and were quick to express their opinions of X (formerly Twitter). Kelly got the heat of the loss as many called for his firing.
Super curious if Deion fires Charles Kelly in the next 8 minutes

Deion gotta fire Charles Kelly

Fire Charles Kelly.
Too many X plays.
No discipline which led to a ridiculous amount of penalties.
Can’t stop a nosebleed..

However, Coach Prime defended Kelly during the post-conference after the Stanford loss. The Buffs’ bowl dreams will remain just that if the defense does not step up. There needs to be a marriage of a great defense alongside a great offense, instead of the offense carrying the games. The Buffs got to have a better defensive showing against their next opponent UCLA because UCLA’s defense has only allowed 214 YPG.
