Former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton plans to make an NFL comeback this season. To attract coaches and manage staff, the veteran had recently opened up on his intentions admitting that he is even willing to take the role of a backup. All he needs is an opportunity to get back into the NFL arena.

Netizens roast Cam Newton for his comments on Deshaun Watson

The Auburn product is trying his level best for a chance in this highly competitive league. Looking at the current scenario and his past records, a backup position deems fit, especially when numerous college players are about to enter the NFL draft of 2023.

Speaking about his choices in a recent interview, Super Cam presented a list of quarterbacks he chooses to play with. “There ain’t 32 guys better than me, but I also know that I could be a backup,” Newton said on the show.

“I’ve grown to admire the person, the athlete that he is going through a lot of turmoil, but I believe that’s behind him,” he added, praising Watson and holding him on the top of his list. Instantly this comment circulated like wildfire on the internet where fans started to call him out.

Deshaun Watson missed several games last season and the campaign before that. More than a dozen women came forward, alleging the quarterback for his S*xual misconduct. He had to face several criticisms from the NFL fraternity and underwent disciplinary actions before returning to the Browns’ locker room.

Who are the other quarterbacks on Newton’s list?

The 33-year-old listed a total of 12 quarterbacks, including the present and rookie prospects of the upcoming season. After Deshaun Watson, Newton opted for Sam Howell, Malik Willis, Tua Tagovailoa, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Fields along with some prominent figures like Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, and Aaron Rodgers.

From the rookies designated to go off the boards on the opening night, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, and Anthony Richardson were a few of them Newton mentioned to groom for their transition into the bigger stage.

Indeed he is a perfect candidate to mold the upcoming generation, and teams can actually consider his presence. Per Yahoo Sports, the former first-round pick has racked up 32,382 yards for 194 touchdowns and 123 interceptions in his illustrious career of 11 seasons in the NFL.
