The moment many NFL fans were waiting for is finally here. Adidas has finally dropped the ‘Mahomes 1 Impact FLX’, one they created in close collaboration with Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes. Even though it has been less than a day since its launch, the product is gaining a lot of traction in the market. Especially in the NFL circles.

The 2x Super Bowl winner took to Instagram to share stories posted by Mecole Hardman and Dante Moore, who got their hands on a pair themselves. Earlier, Mahomes had posted a picture of him working with designers from Adidas, which led to a rather long wait for the masterpiece to come out. It seems Adidas and Mahomes are trying super hard to replicate the famed ‘Nike x Michael Jordan’ legacy.
Adidas and Mahomes release their latest project in a quest to replicate Air Jordan
The Mahomes 1 Impact FLX, a variant of the already existing Impact FLX series, dropped on June 1 and has already become a bestselling product online. Retailing at $140, the shoes come in 7 different colors, including a blue-and-white color scheme seemingly dedicated to Mahomes’ daughter Sterling. Though the plans and the related details have been hitting the fans since late February, now is their chance to grab a pair.

It seems with the collaboration, Adidas may be trying to make up for a mistake they made with another athlete. A mistake that ended up giving their fiercest rival a massive boost in revenue. We are of course talking about Michael Jordan, a rookie whom Adidas refused to sign, back at a time when he was desperate for a collaboration.
Adidas’ refusal gave Nike a chance to sign the NBA GOAT and the rest, as they say, is history. MJ’s passion, Nike’s vision, and of course, a top-notch marketing strategy made the Jordan-Nike deal one of the most profitable and iconic partnerships in the history of footwear industry.
MJ started early with Nike, exactly what Adidas did with Mahomes
The first ever Nike x Jordan shoe to be launched was the ‘Air Jordan I’, which came out in 1985. Retailing for $65 back then, the product’s immense success in the market paved the way for the next set of shoes in the line. Today, Air Jordan brings Nike about $5.2 billion every year in revenue, a number that probably will not go down in the immediate future.
Mahomes and MJ have some similarities in this aspect. Both signed major deals with a brand to come up with their own line relatively early in their careers. Like MJ, Patrick Mahomes is all set to take over his sport by storm, and the increasing popularity will only help him promote his shoes. The question then is, will he be able to surpass the legacy MJ and Nike have built? Or is that a wall that will never fall?
