Patrick Mahomes’ Coach Andy Reid Admits Taking Game Advice From a Janitor: “Called the Play Just Before Halftime”
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has proven time and time again that great ideas can come from unexpected sources. Coach Reid is certainly on his way to turn the Chiefs franchise into an unparalleled football dynasty led by Patrick Mahomes. Moreover, Reid’s unique coaching approach has always surprised fans which is exactly what happened when he once took play-calling advice from a Janitor.
Andy Reid, in his recent public appearance at ‘Green Light with Chris Long’ made a stunning revelation on how welcoming he is when it comes to absorbing ideas. Reid mentioned that he once incorporated a play in the 1990s during his time with the Green Bay Packers which was suggested by a janitor.
Andy Reid Once Put a Janitor’s Play to the Test
Currently, Andy Reid is the mastermind behind the offensive brilliance of Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes at the helm. In a recent interview on ‘Green Light with Chris Long,’ Reid revealed an story about how he once took a game-changing play suggestion from an unexpected source – a janitor. He said,
“I took one from a janitor one time at Green Bay. He goes, ‘I got this play for you.’ And he kept telling me this over and over. Finally, I said, ‘OK, here’s a card. Draw up the play.’ And he drew up the play, and I go, ‘Dang, that’s pretty good.'”

This wasn’t any janitor by the way. He was the owner of a local mom-and-pop janitorial company. Anyways, coming back to Reid, the Chiefs HC didn’t praise the janitor just to amuse him. Reid meant it when he said, “That’s pretty good”. He added, “We called the play just before halftime and it scored”.
Andy Reid’s Journey as a Coach Has Been Sensational Thus Far
Andy Reid has been in the coaching arena for almost three decades now. He began as an offensive line coach with various college teams before joining the Green Bay Packers in 1992. In 1995, he played a crucial role in the Packers’ Super Bowl XXXI victory over the New England Patriots.
Reid’s big break came in 1999 when he was hired as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. He won the AP NFL Coach of the Year in 2002. Fast forward to 2013, and Andy Reid found himself as the head coach of the Chiefs. For Kansas City, the renowned coach has already won two Super Bowls (LIV and LVII) and with Mahomes at the peak of his powers, it won’t be a surprise if Andy adds more Lombardis to his collection in the near future.
