Deion Sanders Playfully Reveals the “Three Things Black Folks Don’t Do”

Deion Sanders has electric energy on the football field after all he is called Prime Time for a reason. He shows up on big moments and delivers more than what is expected of him making the crowd sing his song. However, in his personal space, he admittedly very ‘recluse’ and ‘introverted.’ Certainly, he has a different persona as ‘Prime’ which he saves for football.

In his interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, Deion Sanders detailed his relationship with his two different personalities that many people don’t know about. He recalls that he had to create an alter ego as a college athlete to fulfill a promise to his mother that she wouldn’t have to work another day of her life.

Deion Sanders Talks About His ‘Prime’ Alter Ego

“Deion is kind of recluse, calm, very introverted,” Coach Prime says of his original persona. He states that in his private space, he is a “country boy with a city swag, loves the fish, loves anonymity.” Which differs completely from how fans view him. People see him all electric and hyped up during games but as he reveals he is quite the opposite in his personal life.

“I don’t like crowds,” Deion adds. “I know how to show out in the crowd, but I don’t really like crowds, I don’t really function well in crowds.” But here he is setting up new trends almost every week and making the community of Boulder flourish under his tenure as the new HC of the Buffs. Which he says is the result of his ‘Prime’ persona.

“Prime is totally different, Prime is that alter ego that we all have,” he says. He claims that there is a Prime in everyone but he had the opportunity to bring it forth. Deion says back then defensive backs had a tough time making it big, but he promised his mother when he was seven years old that she would never have to work another day of her life.

“I created this character in my dormitory room in Florida State and I just fed him … and perfected him,” Deion adds. “So now I’m probably a blend of both.” He has made a successful career out of that persona and is now much loved because of it. It can be said that his social experiment with two personalities paid off big time.

Who Gave Deion Sanders the Nickname ‘Prime Time’?

Deion Sanders in his appearance on the Jimmy Fallon show explained how he got the nickname ‘Prime Time’. He stated that he earned that nickname back in high school after a game where he showed up with big numbers. On his way back home on the bus one of his friends said, “Man, you are Primetime!” and it stuck with him ever since.

Coach Prime has turned that nickname into a personal brand. In his successful NFL career, he has consistently been dominant in big games which only shows how much the name suits him and he continues to do so even as a coach.
