Russell Wilson gets inspired by an amazing story of Kobe Bryant from the 2008 Olympics

Even though NBA Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant has left the mortal world, his innumerable tales of inspiration continue to have a surreal impact on the sports fraternity. A while ago, former legendary point guard Dwayne Wade had shared one such ‘Black Mamba’ story with NFL superstar Russell Wilson.

While almost every Kobe Bryant story is as surreal as any tale can be, the one which Wade narrated to Wilson is a bit different than others, as it involves the biggest sporting extravaganza on the planet, the Olympics.

Dwayne Wade’s inspiring Kobe Bryant should serve as an inspiration to Russell Wilson

When it comes to basketball, USA is renowned for dominating the proceedings at the Olympics, ever since the dream team came into existence. One man who was at the centre of USA’s domination at the 2008 Olympics was Kobe Bryant. Giving a sneak peek into the late Hall of Famers’ mindset when he saw him perform at the Olympics, Dwayne Wade had once told NFL’s Russell Wilson:

“One of my favorite things about that experience with Kob’ is, so I was coming off the bench. And Kob’ came to me and he knew I was coming off the bench and he said ‘Hey D when you get in, …I’m gonna pick up the defender, 94 feet. I’m gonna harass ’ ”em.’ …All Kobe cared about was defense.” Wade said in an interview, per Clutch Points.

“To be able to play with a guy who had everything offensively, who coulda just demanded us give him the ball every time down. Was worried about defense? In the Olympics? Come on bro,” Wade had added. Indeed, the benchmark Bryant set is just indomitable.

Looking at how he wasn’t really able to win the support of his mates in Denver last season, Wilson might want to reminisce this Kobe Bryant story in order to regain his lost glory by inspiring the other members of his unit.

Russell Wilson would like to inspire his teammates in Kobe Bryant style

As it turns out, drawing inspiration from Wade’s Kobe story, Wilson seems to have channelized the ‘Mamba Mindset’ in order to recover from the setbacks he faced last season. Russell, who is one of the most optimistic athletes out there, has made it clear that he is hungry to make a comeback in 2023.

During one of the Broncos’ press conference, the veteran had spoken about his intentions for the 2023 season. He took responsibility for his losses and miscalculations that affected the team. The Broncos country accepted Wilson with open arms, and while the signal-caller couldn’t pay them back properly last year, he is expected to go big this season.
