“Get off the Field, Garbage!": Deion Sanders Didn't Hold Back While Blasting His Players for Not Pushing Enough

Deion Sanders, the Colorado coach who currently has a massive $29,500,000 deal, actually has numerous perks attached to his contract, as revealed recently by sports entrepreneur Andrew Petcash. Andrew, in a thread that he recently posted on X, revealed how Coach Prime has transformed the whole program at Boulder in exchange of which, he is getting all he could have asked for.

Deion, who has got the Buffs to a 3-0 start to the season after a disastrous 2022, has got a lucrative contract with CU that also includes perks like basketball season tickets, funds for using private jets, etc., attached to his gigantic deal.

Details of Coach Prime’s Colorado Contract

Debuting as head coach at the University of Colorado, Coach Prime Deion Sanders has already made significant strides. In a recent post on X, Andrew Petcash explained the additional perks that the university offered to keep Coach Prime happy. This lucrative contract comes with several key components helping Sanders “make millions”.

Contract Basics:

  • Term: 5 years with an option for an extension after the 2025 season.
  • Base Salary: $500,000 per year.

Supplemental Salary

  • TV and Radio: $1,750,000 per year for in-season television and radio shows, with an annual increase of $100,000.
  • Promotion and Fundraising: $1,750,000 per year, also with an annual increase of $100,000, per BusinessOfCollegeSports.
  • Development of the Student-Athlete: $1,500,000 allocated to various aspects of student-athlete development and support.

These sum up to $5.5 million in the first year, excluding bonuses.

Bonuses: Coach Prime can earn a variety of bonuses based on the team’s performance, including academic achievements and competitive success. Bonuses range from $150,000 for up to six academic wins to $750,000 for winning the National Championship.

Additional Allowances: Sanders enjoys several perks, including courtesy cars which, in turn includes use of 2 full size SUVs, $800/month club membership at Boulder Country Club, as many as 4 basketball season tickets, and $200,000 to fly privately in the skies.

Buyout Clause: If Coach Prime decides to leave before the end of his contract, there are substantial buyout fees which can go up to $15 million, depending on the departure year. Colorado can terminate the contract under certain conditions but must provide a 75% salary payout unless Sanders is terminated for cause, as detailed in the contract.

Not only that, Andrew highlighted how brands will need to pay a ‘premium’ to work with the Sanders. After all, Coach Prime is nothing short of a marketing wiz when it comes to branding, as reflected by his custom Blenders sunglasses sales that racked up $ 1.2 million in a day. Overall, Deion’s contract also reflects the university’s commitment in holding onto the veteran coach, talking about which Stephen A. Smith once said, “It’s something special to behold.”

Stephen A. Smith Showers Praise on Coach Prime

It seems like Stephen A. Smith has turned into a Sanders fan. On the recent episode of First Take, Stephen took it upon himself to talk about why Sanders is different from all the other college coaches at the moment. After all, he has guided his once below par 1-11 team to a 3-0 start already.

“There’s only one Prime-time Deion Sanders, but because of the talent that he’s brought with him, everybody knows that ‘the success,’ he isn’t succeeding by himself. He doesn’t fail to give his players credit, he doesn’t fail to give his coaching staff credit and if you’re getting them from hbcus and they’re succeeding, it’s going to put ample pressure on College programs and NFL franchises to recognize what hbcus is…”, said Smith.

But will these high-praises stand tall going forward in the competition, especially after CU’s close win against the Colorado State? Only time will tell.
