Travis Hunter Backs Himself Over USC Stud Caleb Williams For Heisman Trophy

Travis Hunter has flourished under head coach Deion Sanders, and with the way he started the season, he believes that he should be the Heisman frontrunner over USC QB Caleb Williams. Travis Hunter is a two-way star, playing cornerback and wide receiver, and he’s excelled at both. Caleb Williams has been dominating the college football sphere for some time now, and he won the Heisman last year, so he is the clear favorite. However, Hunter truly believes that he can challenge him for that award.

The Colorado Buffaloes have become the biggest storyline in college football this year because of Deion Sanders. The former NFL legend transformed Jackson State with his coaching, and he’s doing the same now. His son Shedeur Sanders is playing beautifully, and the team has already tripled their win count from a year ago when they finished 1-11. Players like Travis Hunter came over with Sanders to Colorado, and they’ve bought into his system, leading to the kind of success they’ve seen so far.

Travis Hunter Details He’s the Best Heisman Candidate Over Caleb Williams

Hunter was asked about his Heisman projections on Bleacher Report, and he immediately came out with a bold statement. Caleb Williams is the unanimous favorite right now, but Travis Hunter had him ranked at number three.

In second place, Hunter backed his quarterback Shedeur Sanders which is understandable. At number one, Hunter had nobody but himself.

He mentioned how at the start of the season he put out a post captioned “Heisman loading”, and he’s ready to make good on that promise. Hunter knows the value he provides to his team, and he truly believes that he can show people up now. Earlier, people felt like Hunter was playing in a weaker conference at Jackson State, and he’d need to prove himself with Colorado.

He’s done that so far. Hunter did suffer an injury which has hampered some of his progress, but he started off the season extremely well.

Against TCU, Hunter played 145 out of 160 possible snaps, catching 11 passes for 119 yards. He also snagged an interception in that game. Hunter’s ability to play both sides of the ball is unique, and it’s a trait that could propel him into Heisman talks.

Hunter Looks to Come Back Strong From Injury

Hunter took a nasty hit against the game with rivals Colorado State. He’s suffering from a lacerated liver hit, and there’s no update on when he’ll be back yet.

However, Hunter is already itching to get back on the field. Before the USC game, he was essentially pleading with coach Deion Sanders to let him play. However, Sanders made the smart decision and told Hunter he needed to rest and recover before he could come back.

“I care about you more than I care about this game,” Sanders replied according to The Sporting News.
