Brady is currently playing in the NFC Championship Game against the Packers with a chance to reach his 10th Super Bowl. Clearly, the Bucs experiment worked out for him.
Tompa Bay: Why Did Tampa Bay Appeal to Brady?
There were many factors that led to Brady leaving the New England Patriots. It seemed unfathomable that Brady would ever leave the Patriots, but there were a lot of moving pieces that led to his departure.
Firstly, the Patriots were unable to put forward a competitive roster to help Brady succeed. His best receiver was Julian Edelman and while Edelman is a stud, he’s nothing compared to Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, or even Antonio Brown later.
Brady joined the Bucs to assemble the perfect team around him. And that’s exactly what he did. Brady recruited Gronk, he pulled in players like Leonard Fournette and Antonio Brown, and now the Bucs are in the NFC Championship.
Additionally, Brady is near the end of his career and he wants to win NOW. The Patriots couldn’t offer that to him at this point with an aging roster, and so Brady knew he had to leave.
This is also what Brady had to say about his move:
“Right now, though, I have things to prove to myself. The only way is through. If I don’t go for it, I’ll never know what I could have accomplished. Wanting to do something is different from actually doing it. If I stood at the bottom of a mountain, and told myself I could scale the highest peak, but then didn’t do anything about it, what’s the point of that?”
