During the second day of the second Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Pune, India captain Virat Kohli scored his seventh double century in Test cricket. It is worth mentioning that Kohli’s last double century had come during the home series against Sri Lanka in 2017.
In what is his 26th Test century, Kohli successfully converted into a formidable knock to put his team in a string position. Resuming his innings from 63* in the morning, Kohli shifted gears after scoring the 100-run mark.
The 30-year old cricketer was seen playing his shots more freely after getting to his first Test century this year. Batting alongside all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, the pair was continually seen running exceedingly well between the wickets.
It was on the last delivery of the 126th over that Kohli edged a Keshav Maharaj delivery to reach 150 runs. The last time he crossed the 150-run mark was during the tour of South Africa in Cape Town last year. On the fourth delivery of the 144th over, Kohli flicked a Senuran Muthusamy delivery to complete his double century.
Kohli has also went past Indian greats such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to score his seventh double century in Tests. Both the former cricketers have six Test double centuries to their name. During his innings, Kohli also surpassed Sir Don Bradman in the list of highest run-scorers in Test matches.
