Leon Ruff surprises Johnny Gargano to win NXT North American Championship

Leon Ruff surprises Johnny Gargano to win NXT North American Championship. Gargano is yet to successfully defend a singles title in the promotion.

Johnny Gargano was the first Triple Crown Champion in the WWE. For a man who has won all the titles in NXT, Gargano has had a hard time keeping a hold on them. On his second reign as the North American Champion, Johnny Wrestling decided to take matters into his hand and script a first successful defence.

The North American Champion opened the show with his wheel in the ring. The wheel had names of potential challengers including Damien Priest, the man he beat for the title. It hardly mattered though as it was rigged to land on Leon Ruff; the man Gargano was very confident of beating.

As expected, Gargano dominated the majority of the match. However, he was thrown off his feet when Damien Priest walked out to watch the match from ringside. The former Champion though, never did anything. A paranoid Gargano however, remained distracted.

That was enough of an opening for the challenger as he ducked a kick to land a Crucifix Bomb. A 3-count later, Gargano laid on his back with yet another failed unsuccessful title defence on his record books.

No one saw that coming! Arguably the greatest upset ever in NXT history.

Priest walked down and celebrated with the New champion. He helped Ruff put on the title. However, it slipped down his waist.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
