On This Day: 4 years ago Chelsea helped Leicester City to lift the Premier League title after beating city rivals Tottenham Hotspur by 2-0.
Leicester City’s Premier League title win was no less than a fairytale in the world of football. But in their win, Chelsea had a huge role to make them win the Premier League.
In the final rounds of the league season, Tottenham Hotspur was in a close-knitted competition with Leicester City and it seemed like the Fixes might succumb to the pressure by them.
But Leicester City’s good fortune came when Chelsea faced their local rivals Tottenham in the Premier League. According to the BBC, Hazard and Cesc Fabregas had both said they were determined not to let their London rivals win the title and so it was no surprise that this was a feisty encounter played inside a raucous Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham took the lead when Kane, put through by Erik Lamela, perfectly timed his run and rounded Asmir Begovic for his 25th league goal of the season.
Despite the two-goal lead, Tottenham lost the cool and allowed Chelsea to make a comeback. The introduction of Eden Hazard after the break which changed Chelsea’s fortunes. The Belgian gave the hosts an incisiveness which had previously been missing.
Gary Cahill got more than one touch inside the box and halve the deficit with his left foot and in the 83rd minute, it was Hazard who lobbed the ball into the net to spoil the night for Tottenham fans.
After the game, Harry Kane said Chelsea’s players “celebrated as if they won the title”, but the Blues have had little to cheer in a terrible title defence.

But, at least it gave the Blues the bragging rights over their North London rivals and propelled something extraordinary in the history of the Premier League. Leicester City had the odds of winning the title by 5000-1, yet it happened.
