Even after Cristiano Ronaldo won his 2nd consecutive FIFA Best Player award, there were debates over who the greatest is among the Portuguese and his long-time rival, Lionel Messi.
It has always been a difficult choice to choose one, but this time FIFA officials, captains, coaches, journalists and fans voted for Ronaldo, who had a good season, to win the Men’s Player of the Year Award.

However, among the greatest of all times is another name. A Brazilian phenomenon, known as Pele, is renowned as one of the greatest legends of the game, and the 3-time World Cup winner has never hesitated to present his opinion on this never-ending debate.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is excellent but he is a scorer, a forward… Messi, he scores goals ok, but he is more for the organised team. Then I say, ok, both are fantastic, but you can not compare.”
“You have a Ronaldo to a Ronaldinho, it was almost the same style, but it’s a different style, to me over the last 15 years, no doubt Messi is the best player”
However, the 77-year-old has had mixed opinions on this topic over these years, with him changing his perspective on frequent basis.
Earlier this year, the Brazilian legend named Cristiano Ronaldo as the best – “Ronaldo has come through for the past two or three years and is the best in Europe. I think at the moment no doubt Ronaldo is the best.”
On other occasions, Pele opted for Lionel Messi or even his fellow Brazilian, Neymar, who ended as the 3rd Best Player according to FIFA after Cristiano and Messi.
Nevertheless, being fair to the legend, Pele clearly mentioned Messi as the best player for the last 15 years, and that Lionel Messi has been more consistent over the past decade than his Portuguese rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.
