Pep Guardiola: Man City manager explains the uniqueness about Anfield atmosphere

Pep Guardiola explains the uniqueness about intimidating Anfield atmosphere.

Pep Guardiola believes that the Anfield atmosphere is the best ever since he has experienced as both manager and player.

The Spaniard was contracted with Barcelona as a player and the manager. Albeit playing in different stadiums, the 48-year-old believes that Anfield creates the best atmosphere and opponents will feel ‘small’ in that noise.

The Manchester City boss faced defeats three times in the last two years, and points out the relentless Anfield factor.

During an interview with Catalan newspaper ARA, Guardiola reflected on Reds’ stunning comeback in the Champions League Semifinals at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp’s side was trailing 3-0 from Nou Camp, but braces from Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi ensured the victory.

Lionel Messi and co were blown away by Anfield crowd and Pep Guardiola was surprised with his former side because he expected them to score a goal in the reverse leg.

“I thought they would score a goal at Anfield. Am I am sure the players know that Anfield is Anfield. The motto ‘This is Anfield’ is not a marketing spirit,” Pep said.

“There is something about it that you will not find in no other stadium in the world.”

“They score a goal and in the next five minutes you feel that you receive another four. You feel too small and the rival players seem to be all over.  We all have gone through what happened to Barcelona.”

During the first leg of the Champions League Quarterfinals 2017/18, Liverpool scored three goals within 19 minutes to drift the tie away from the Citizens’ hands.

“They were laughing when we were losing 3-0 after first 15-20 minutes of the Quarterfinal. It’s bugger of a ground.”

The Citizens had a chance to end Liverpool’s home record, but Riyad Mahrez’s poor penalty meant that Jurgen Klopp extended his unbeaten home record to more than two years.
