The FIA today confirmed that 18 inch tyres would make an appearance from 2021. This announcement was made while inviting bids from tyre manufacturers to gain exclusive rights of becoming F1’s tyre suppliers from 2020 to 2023.

These dimension changes will affect the sport in a large way and the response has been pretty lukewarm as of now.

Change isn’t always welcomed, and this one seems like one of those unnecessary changes that will cause problems for both the drivers and the teams.

Fan too aren’t very impressed with these proposed tyre changes and want FIA and Liberty to focus on other important aspects of the sport.

Fans are now curious to know how the 18 inch tyres would work, what kind of changes can be expected whilst driving on the race track and if it would affect visibility in any which way.

Pirelli’s F1 test driver, who has been testing these 18 inch tyres released a social media post with his car and those 18 inch tyres attached to them.

Will Buxton was quick to ask him for some feedback about the tyres and how it could affect driving/racing from 2021.

Luca Fillipi, the Pirelli test driver came up with a compact reply to address some of the obvious concerns/questions that would have come up in every fan’s mind.

“A bit heavier because of the bigger rims, bigger diameter too so a bit less visibility of the apex but good grip because of the bigger contact patch. Very different on kerbs as the sidewall is much smaller. Enough?” he tweeted, replying to Will Buxton’s question

Do you think 18 inch tyres would be fun?
