Here are the five players who could win the golden boot in the upcoming season.

Lethal strikers have always won the league for their respective sides, and it’s never been unjustified. They are held in high regard by the supporters, who want a handful number of goals in a game.

Thierry Henry, who is considered as one of the artful strikers to light up the Premier League, has won the most number of golden boots with four. The Frenchman is followed by the record Premier League scorer, Alan Shearer, lifting it thrice. Standing third in the queue are the two-time winners Michael Owen, Didier Drogba, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Robin Van Persie, Harry Kane, and Mohamed Salah.

Mohamed Salah has scored the most number of goals (32) in a single season. He is followed by the ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo with 31 goals apiece in a campaign.

With the new season in the street corner, here are the five players possessing a chance to lift the golden boot in the upcoming season.

#5 Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane meteoric rise has earned admiration around the world. The man, who kick-started Jurgen Klopp’s fantastic transfer business in Liverpool, earned the golden boot – bagging 22 goals last campaign.

The Senegal International stood up to the task when his teammate Mohamed Salah was enduring a tough time with goal drought last season. With the anticipated midfield supply from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, Sadio Mane could have an extraordinary output in the upcoming campaign. He does not enter this season as a favourite for the golden boot, but could end up surprising a few.

#4 Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero is a guaranteed 20-goal striker. Since goals are spread across the front line for the Citizens, the Argentinian is ranked fourth in this list. Else, he would be in the top three, without a shadow of a doubt.

The one-time golden boot winner is an integral cog in Pep Guardiola’s frontline and his presence can never be doubted because of his immense concentration and clinical nature in front of the goal. With the unrelenting supply from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, and Fernandinho from the midfield position, Sergio Aguero is worth a shout for this individual accolade.

#3 Pierre Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is one of the finest strikers in the Premier League currently. There’s no doubt that he wouldn’t be the striker he is without proper supply from the midfield department.

The Gabonese international shared the golden boot with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane last season. The acquisition of Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos provides insurance for the strikers to drive forward and get into the penalty box frequently. The former Borussia Dortmund striker is a fox inside the box, and would be in the race for the golden boot this season.

#2 Harry Kane

Harry Kane’s last couple of seasons have been plagued with injuries. The English International notched back-to-back golden boots before facing unceasing ankle problems – putting end to Spurs title race hopes.

The striker has looked fully redeemed in the pre-season games with Tottenham Hotspur. There are few teams productive as the Champions League runners-up since Mauricio Pochettino took over the club in 2014. The creative hub of the side is amended with the signing of Tanguy Ndombele – providing no shortage of supply in the final third of the field. If Harry Kane manages to stay fit, the English International will be the frontrunner for the golden boot.

#1 Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah enters this season in the quest of defending his back-to-back golden boots. Numbers speak for the Egyptian, who is the record holder for the highest number of goals scored in a Premier League campaign.

There were severe doubts over his goalscoring abilities when he was going through drought last campaign, but came back by scoring four goals in the four games, including a penalty against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final. With total supply from the full-backs, Salah could win his third golden boot on a trot.
