Premier League Big 6 Summer signings rated
Manchester United
Daniel James
Daniel James joined Manchester United from Swansea for a reported fee of £15 million. He had a terrific start to life at Old Trafford scoring a goal on his debut after coming on as a substitute. He scored 3 goals in 4 matches to be named United’s player of the month for August.
Since then however, James has suffered a dip in form and despite being one of the better players in the squad, is yet to recreate the magic from his first month with the club.
Rating: 5/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
The 22-year old joined the club from Crystal Palace summer and has become a constant name in the playing 11. The right back has endeared the fans with his tackling. However, his lack of attacking presence is a cause of worry for the club.
Wan Bissaka is undoubtedly an upgrade on what the club had in it’s ranks. However, he is far from a finished product at the moment.
Rating: 5.5/10
Harry Maguire
The World’s most expensive defender has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism since joining Manchester United in the summer. However, contrary to belief, the England international has undoubtedly improved the backline at Old Trafford.
However, just like the two players above him, the improvements have not come with consistency. Although, Maguire has been more reliable than the James and Wan-Bissaka.
Rating: 6.5/10
Arsenal
Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli has been a sensation for Arsenal this season. He has played 13 games for Arsenal in the premier league and has made 5 starts. He has scored 3 times in the league and a further 3 more in the Europa league and 4 in the Carabao Cup.
In total, he has played 22 games for Arsenal this season and has scored 10 goals despite only making 12 starts. At 18, Martinelli is definitely one for the future at the Emirates.
Rating: 6/10
Dani Ceballos
Ceballos joined Arsenal on a season long loan deal from Real Madrid in the summer. However, barring the game against Burnley where he provided 2 assists, the Spaniard has had a rather lacklustre time at the Emirates with reports claiming that he wants Real Madrid to find him a new club.
Rating: 4.5/10
Nicolas Pepe
Arsenal’s club record signing has shown flashes of brilliance but on the whole has flattered to deceive. A return of 3 goals and 3 assists so far is way below expectations. However, fans will agree that the quality is there for all to see and will hope that Mikel Arteta manages to salvage the player into the player the fans want him to be.
Rating: 6/10
Kieran Tierney
Kieran Teirney joined Arsenal in the summer from Celtic despite being injured. He made his first team debut for Arsenal in the EFL Cup on September 24. However, he suffered another injury a little over a month later and is yet to return since.
The left back has played well in the 11 games he played for Arsenal. However, he has spent more time in the medical room than on the pitch since his arrival at North London.
Rating: 4/10
David Luiz
David Luiz joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer to fix their backline, Luiz has been very questionable in defence and has looked clueless at times. However, it was always going to be a tough ask expecting him to fix Arsenal woes at the back.
Luiz is undoubtedly a leader and it shows on the field. However, he is clearly past his prime and for all his efforts and apart from the odd good game, he is much more susceptible to brain fades in the game now.
Rating: 5/10
William Saliba
French teenager, William Saliba was purchased from Saint-Etienne and sent back on loan to the same club as part of the deal. The 18-year old defender has played 5 games this season so far and will join Arsenal next season.
