Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler playing for Mumbai Indians

Jammu & Kashmir fast bowler playing for Mumbai Indians: The rookie fast bowler was surprisingly included for Mumbai Indians season opener vs DC.

During the third match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at Mumbai, Mumbai Indians surprisingly handed debut to J&K fast bowler Rasikh Salam. The 17-year old cricketer was bought for his base price of INR 20 lakh during the IPL auction.

Known for his knack of bowling fast, Salam was spotted by Indians’ scouts before the IPL auction. Salam had come into limelight after he made his List A debut against Rajasthan at Chennai in October last year. Having played a couple of List A matches, Salam made his First-class debut against Assam at Guwahati in December.

Having been named in Indians’ squad by this time, Salam played a couple of matches in the Ranji Trophy. During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month, Salam played five matches for Jammu & Kashmir, picking up four wickets at an average of 42.25, an economy rate of 9.05 and a strike rate of 28.

While his numbers so far haven’t been awe-inspiring, but the neophyte player has put on display enough signs of his potential. Proper guidance and backing at Mumbai Indians is highly likely of him becoming an interesting prospect for the future.

Rasikh Salam opens the bowling for MI

Opening the bowling for MI, Salam conceded six runs in his first over. Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer hitting him for a couple of fours in his second over saw him giving away 11 runs. After giving just four runs in his third over, Salam’s read 3-0-21-0 at the time of writing this article.

During the toss, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma put the visitors in to bat at Wankhede Stadium. As surprising as playing Salam, Mumbai also made the brave call of playing veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. On the other hand, Capitals handed an IPL debut to West Indies’ fast bowler Keemo Paul.
