Ravichandran Ashwin congratulates Dhoni and CSK on IPL win

Former CSK star Ravichandran Ashwin congratulated Dhoni and CSK after Chennai defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets to win the IPL title.

In the yesteryears, Ravi Ashwin was an integral part of CSK. He came up with many match winning performances and remained Chennai’s lead spinner for several years.

However, when CSK returned to IPL this year following a two year suspension, CSK did not go for Ashwin. Rather Kings XI Punjab bagged him in the auctions and ultimately made Ashwin the Captain.

The season started well for the Kings as they won 5 of their first 6 matches. However, after their week-long break, they just failed to ride on their momentum. As it turned out, KXIP failed to latch on to a Playoff berth.

After CSK won the title, Ashwin came up with a heartwarming tweet:

Drawing parallel between Ashwin and Dhoni, Ashwin’s KXIP team mate Aaron Finch recently said: “Ashwin is very calm and that comes with playing under MS Dhoni. MSD is a cool guy and Ashwin has also been calm and made some great decisions.

I think Ashwin has been outstanding. While he hasn’t had a lot of experience of leading the side in the past, he has been a successful cricketer and has brought that to the table as a leader. He brings the group together and speaks to individuals before the game. Along with chief coach Brad Hodge, Ashwin has left no stone unturned when it comes to preparations for a game.”
