Rayudu on Dhoni's support

Rayudu on Dhoni’s support: The Indian middle-order batsman was vocal about how he wanted to repay MS Dhoni’s faith in him.

India middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu, who made a comeback into the team during the Asia Cup earlier this year, was successful in cementing his position at No. 4 in India’s ODI batting line-up.

In the 11 ODIs which Rayudu has played since his comeback, he has scored 392 runs at an average of 56 and a strike rate of 90.74, including a century and three half-centuries. Rayudu’s consistency so far ended India’s wait for a batsman at No. 4.

In an interview with Sportskeeda, Rayudu thanked the former India captain and current wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni for keeping faith in him. The 33-year old right-hand batsman went on to say that he always wanted to repay the faith Dhoni had on him.

“Dhoni bhai trusted me and I always wanted to repay the faith he had in me. I worked on my game and I am happy that I was able to make the most of the opportunities I got,” Rayudu said about Dhoni, who is his captain at Chennai Super Kings as well.

Rayudu will be next seen during the ODI leg of India’s tour of Australia next month. Although he is highly likely to bat at No. 4, Rayudu said that he is open to bat at any position in the Indian team.

“I am not looking at any number as such. I am just preparing for the upcoming series against Australia. I am not thinking too far beyond. As far as my training is concerned, I just look at my game and look at where I can improve and go about it,” Rayudu added.

Rayudu had recently retired from First-class cricket. On being asked about the same, he disclosed that it was a decision which he took in a bid to increase the longevity of his body.

“The only thought process behind it is to preserve my body as much as possible. I am 33 and had surgery to my knee in the past. I really wanted to make efficient use of my body in terms of the amount of games I play in a year,” he concluded.
