Real Madrid News: Real Madrid youngster refuses to quit his jersey number for Eden Hazard

Real Madrid News: Real Madrid youngster refuses to drop the famous club jersey number ‘seven’ for Los Blancos’ new star signing-Eden Hazard.

Real Madrid recently made a mega signing of Eden Hazard from Chelsea, but yet to give a jersey number to the Belgian International, as all the number he wore previously are already taken in Real Madrid.

Although, it was reported that Real Madrid were ready to give number ‘7’ jersey to Hazard, by stripping it away from Mariano Diaz, as the Dominican International failed to stand up to the legacy of the jersey number.

However, according to a report by the Marca, Mariano is also ‘adamant’ of keeping his number ahead. The Dominican Republic international thinks that he has a chance to cement his place in Real’s 25-man squad next season.

On the other hand, Hazard was also denied number 10 kit number, which he used to wear at Chelsea, by Luka Modric, who currently possess the same number at Real Madrid.

“I have been able to talk to Modric through [Mateo] Kovacic,” Hazard said at his unveiling. “I was joking when I asked him to lend me the No. 10. He said no, so I’ll have to find another number.” he further said.

So, that leaves Hazard with his third choice option – number 23. The same number was earlier wore by Manchester United and Real Madrid icon- David Beckham at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Last season, Sergio Reguilon was given the shirt, but it’s unlikely he’ll put up a fight to keep it. Therefore, Hazard’s quest for a squad number could soon be over.

It is further stated in the report, with Hazard’s admiration for basketball, and there have been plenty of famous faces wearing it in the NBA, the 28-year-old forward could be drawn to the number 23.
