AB de Villiers to take a final call on retirement in January

AB de Villiers to take a final call on retirement in January: The former international cricketer might play for Proteas again.

Former South African captain AB de Villiers, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, might be seen playing international cricket once again. If reports are to be believed, de Villiers is considering to take a final decision on his international cricket soon.

De Villiers announcing his retirement this year in itself was a shock for his fans around the world expected to watch him play till the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, at least. His exit left a massive hole in South Africa’s batting line-up, something which they are yet to fill till now.

There is no hiding to the fact that injuries had started to take a toll on de Villiers’ career, chiefly in Test cricket. Despite that, whenever he played, he looked in form. After missing Test cricket for almost a couple of years, de Villiers returned during last year’s Boxing Day Test.

In the eight Test matches which de Villiers played since then, he scored 691 runs at an average of 53.15 and a strike rate of 65.49. Since South Africa’s tour of England last year, de Villiers had played in 12 ODIs, scoring 402 runs at an average of 40.20 and a strike rate of 128.43.

In 12 IPL matches earlier this year, he had scored 480 runs at an average of 53.33 and a strike rate of 174.54. Despite his rich returns, de Villiers decided to call it a day citing ‘being tired’ as the reason.

That being said, in a fresh development, renowned TV journalist Vikrant Gupta said on his show SportsTak that de Villiers will take a final call on his international career in January next year. Gupta had recently met de Villiers at an event and it was there that this conversation took place between the two.

When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
