Rishabh Pant comments on 2019 World Cup snub

Rishabh Pant comments on 2019 World Cup snub: Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman was vocal about not being named in World Cup squad.

Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals reached the top of the points table after defeating Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets at Jaipur. Registering their seventh IPL 2019 win, DC have almost secured a qualifying berth for themselves.

Having last qualified for the knockouts in 2012, it has been an emphatic journey for DC so far. The pinnacle of their game in IPL 2019 is them winning five out of six away matches.

It was wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant who played a match-winning innings to take his team through. Coming in to bat at No. 4 in the ninth over, Pant scored 78* (36) with the help of six fours and four sixes to win the match for his team in the last over.

The southpaw had recently been criticized for giving away his wicket and not finishing matches for his team. However, it was a different story altogether tonight. “Feels really good to make your team win a crucial match,” Pant was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation.

After not being named in India’s squad for the 2019 World Cup, the ICC Emerging Player of the Year was doing the rounds in the news of late. Being asked about the same, the 21-year old cricketer admitted that he was thinking about not being named in the World Cup team. “I won’t lie that the thought wasn’t running through my mind, but I just focus on my process and that’s all I was thinking of,” Pant said.

“Most important thing for our team is that everyone knows our role, and the support staff tells us, ‘this is your role, and this is what is going to happen to you,'” Pant concluded while referring to Capitals’ players knowing their respective roles in the side.
