Ahmed Mehmedi scored in the 57th minute with a powerful left footed shot to cancel out Romania’s early lead and ensure that Switzerland have 4 points ahead of their final game against France.

Switzerland impressed in the opening exchanges and looked dangerous before Romania were awarded a penalty  after Stephan Lichtsteiner grabbed Chipciu’s shirt inside the box , Bogdan Stancu stepped up to score his second penalty in as many games and gave Romania the lead against the run of play.

Switzerland’s finishing was largely terrible but the Romania goalkeeper still made three key first-half saves from Seferovic, Fabian Schar and a Ricardo Rodriguez free-kick, before his side tightened up and gave him less to do after half-time.

Switzerland dominated the game but Romania were always a thread on the counter , and the Switzerland finally broke the resilient Romanian defence in the 57th minute.  A corner was only half cleared to Ahmed Mehmadi who finished with an unstoppable first time shot from 15 yards out.

Swizeland attacked with full force after their goal and created some great chances but as was the case against Albania, their finishing let them down.

Switzerland have never went past the group stage in the European Championships and they now sit comfortably in second place ahead of their game against France , as far as Romania are concerned , it was a familiar feeling of being undone by a fantastic strike. They now face Albania and would look for a favour from the hosts France.
