Romelu Lukaku tells referee to not give penalty in great act of sportsmanspirit

Belgium beat Tunisia 5-2 to ensure a place in the round-of-16 of the World Cup.

Romelu Lukaku won the respect of many while playing against Tunisia in the second match of their World Cup campaign, as Belgium comprehensively won the game 5-2. The Belgian striker earned the respect of many, as he convinced the referee Jair Marrufo to not give a penalty kick when he went down in the box.

While inside the box, Romelu Lukaku went down, even when there was very little contact with Tunisian goalkeeper Farouk Ben Mustapha. However, referee was set to refer the penalty decision to VAR, when Romelu Lukaku raised his hand and stood up to talk to the referee.

He then convinced the referee to not give the penalty. Here is the video from the incident.


His act of sportsman-spirit won the hearts of many, and people on Twitter were quick to react to the incident.
