Samuel Umtiti injury update

Samuel Umtiti injury update: The Barcelona defender has been reportedly reluctant to undergo knee surgery.

The Barcelona defender made a comeback after over two months on the sidelines against Atletico Madrid, playing the full 90 minutes in the game. However, he was kept out of action for this week’s Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven due to knee problems.

Umtiti suffered the injury in October, and earlier reports suggested that he could be out for the rest of the season.

It has now been reported that Barcelona wants Umtiti to undergo knee surgery in order to eliminate the risks of further damage to the body part.

The defender, however, is reportedly reluctant on the same.

Samuel Umtiti injury update:

The Spanish media outlets, including Mundo Deportivo, has reported that Barcelona have found the permanent solution to treat Umtiti’s injury. The staff at the Catalan club has advised Umtiti to undergo a knee surgery.

The French defender, however, has his reservations. A surgery is expected to keep him out of action for at least five months, which would keep him out for the rest of the season.

It is this reason which keeps him from considering the option.

Samuel Umtiti made a bright start to the season before eventually injuring his knee. Barcelona are currently 2nd in the La Liga, as they played a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid last weekend.

In the Champions League, however, Barca remain unbeaten and have already qualified for the round-of-16. Even as the side endured a difficult game at PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona emerged 2-1 winners.

Marca has reported that Samuel Umtiti had consistently received injections and physiotherapy to keep the knee problems from playing consistently in the World Cup.

After the issue continues to persist in the new season at Barcelona, the club has proposed a surgery for the defender.

What next?

Thomas Vermaelen, who suffered an injury during the international break last month, is in the final stages of recovery and is likely to be available for selection in Barcelona’s Copa del Rey’s second leg against Cultural Leonesa.
