Sebastian Vettel narrowly missed out on the F1 title last season, having led the pack until the Italian Grand Prix only to fall behind Hamilton in the last leg of the season, following a bunch of mediocre races.

However, the loss hasn’t dampened spirits in the Ferrari and Vettel camp, as they look to bounce back this season, with more fervour and vigour.

Vettel was present at the unveiling of the new SF71H at Maranello and was upbeat about how the machine looked and felt. There was a palpable sense of confidence in the German who would be itching to give it back to his arch rival Hamilton this season.

“Well, I think we always have some positive expectation,” Vettel said

“The amount of work that goes into a new car is immense, it’s not just the work of the winter.

“Work on this started quite early during last season to look after this year’s car, and this is the result.

“Exciting times!

“In terms of expectations, it’s always difficult… we’ve worked very hard and we think in the right way.

“The next few weeks will be very important to understand if all the things we’ve thought of start making sense.

“We’re confident the car will be good to drive, and I can’t wait to get a feel.” he added.

Hamilton also spoke about his rivalry with Vettel during his interaction with the press at the unveiling of the new W09 Mercedes.

Lewis expects an intense tussle this time round as well, but is hopeful of coming out on top once again.

Vettel on the other hand feels that with the amount of work done on the car, the upcoming season could be a brilliant one for Ferrari.

“Every little detail matters. Every part can make a difference and I think this year’s car is a big step from last year’s.” said Vettel.

“When it looks nice, the speed is also there. But obviously we will see that next week,” he added.

Interesting times ahead!
