Currently playing for Netherlands in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, veteran all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe is a like-for-like replacement for Shakib. In seven matches in the ongoing tournament, van der Merwe has picked 10 wickets at an average of 14.40, an economy rate of 5.53 and a strike rate of 15.6.

Having played for Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL from 2009-2013, van der Merwe has had a decent experience of the tournament. In 21 IPL matches, van der Merwe has dismissed 21 batsmen at an average of 23.71, an economy rate of 6.74 and a strike rate of 21.09.

With premier spinner Rashid Khan attacking from one end, van der Merwe can be the ultimate defensive option from the other end.
