Shikhar Dhawan has enjoyed a good little spell in the Indian setup in the last 6 months, making a comeback of sorts and excelling in whatever opportunities have come his way. He has now cemented his place in all three formats as India’s opener, and it looks like his aggressive approach would come in very handy in the South African conditions.

Dhawan is currently featuring in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and is enjoying his time playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Virat Kohli opted for rest from the ongoing limited overs series against Sri Lanka, as his wedding ceremony was scheduled, and Rohit Sharma was roped in as captain.

The Indian team is currently in Vizag, gearing up for the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka, which would be the decider, with both teams having won a game each in the series.

India were rocked back in the 1st ODI, as the Sri Lankan bowlers schooled the Indian batsman in testing conditions at Dharamshala. But India came back strongly in the 2nd ODI, thanks to a terrific double hundred from Rohit Sharma.

Dhawan spoke to the media on the eve of the 3rd ODI, talking about the game and Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

“I’ve always loved coming back to Vizag. Very beautiful city, very clean city and of course the property in which we are living, it has the sea in front of us, it’s beautiful. And of course I did well in the Deodhar Trophy as you said and after that there was a drastic change in my career. As they say, Vizag is a city of destiny isn’t it? It has been good for me and I always enjoy coming here,” Dhawan fondly remembering his time at Vizag.

“Of course there is pressure whenever you play a final (decider), there is pressure but we are used to it and there is going to be a big crowd tomorrow. We are a strong side and we believe in our ability and our skill, we are going to go out and play it like any other game, just do the basics right.” Dhawan said talking about tomorrow’s game.

While talking about Rohit’s captaincy, Dhawan spoke about how Rohit had a sense of calm in his captaincy.

“He has only been captain for two matches but I’ve known Rohit from a long time and I know what his character is like. He is a very chilled out captain and tells us to keep the basics right, we all know our roles, we just have to give our best and hats off to him for the way he performed in the last game. Very happy about it,” Dhawan concluded.
