Shikhar Dhawan picks favourite captain between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli

Shikhar Dhawan picks favourite captain: The Indian opening batsman picked one out of his former and current captain.

India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has advocated for the 13th season of the Indian Premier League to take place to promote positivity among people from the sport.

“Of course, IPL should take place because people will get positivity from it. Currently, there is only coronavirus news and fear because of it,” Dhawan was quoted as saying during an Instagram live session with former India all-rounder Shikhar Dhawan.

Dhawan’s viewpoint matches that of former India batsman Gautam Gambhir who had also opined on conducting IPL 2020 to let the nation with against the coronavirus scare.

Dhawan, 34, also picked his favourite batting partner and didn’t shy away from picking one out of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and current captain Virat Kohli as his best captain.

“[Best batting partner will be] Rohit Sharma. [Among captains] I have only played under Virat [Kohli] and [MS] Dhoni, so, as of now, Dhoni bhai,” Dhawan said. Talking about Kohli, the southpaw termed him as the best Indian batsman at the moment.

While Dhawan made his ODI and Test debut under Dhoni, he had made his T20I debut under Suresh Raina. It was under Dhoni that he made a comeback into the ODI team during the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

In 89 international outings under Dhoni, Dhawan has scored 3,417 runs at an average of 37.14 and a strike rate of 85.44 including nine centuries and 15 half-centuries.

As compared to Dhoni, Dhawan has a better record under Kohli. In 111 matches across formats under Kohli, Dhawan has scored 4,926 runs at an average of 42.10 and a strike rate of 88.46 including 11 centuries and 24 half-centuries.

Apart from Dhoni and Kohli, Dhawan has also represented India under Raina (5), Rohit Sharma (25) and Ajinkya Rahane (1).
