New Manchester United manager will be allowed to buy players only if follows the criterion.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be able to buy players in the January transfer window, but Manchester United have criteria to be able to do so. Spanish publication Ok Diario has reported that the board are seeking to ship off substandard players to invite other players to their helm in the forthcoming month.

It is no doubt that the former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho wanted to add a centre-back in the summer window, but the deals for numerous defenders never materialized. The likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Diego Godin, and Jerome Boateng were targetted, but they were not able any one of these two four to Old Trafford which has sophisticated things under the Portuguese manager.

The 55-year-old was forced to work with available centre-backs till his sack. Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Victory Lindelof, Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo were the defenders at disposal which constrained Mourinho and that decision made life tougher at Old Trafford. But, since he kept on blaming the board in the public, the player’s mentality went down and it created a restlessness within the dressing room.

However, the Spanish source says that the Norwegian is happy with the current crop of centre-backs, but want a wide forward who would be capable to play through the right flank. Rumours are going on that Juventus forward Douglas Costa is the main target for the Red Devils in the January transfer window, but the player or the club has not come out and said anything about the potential rumours linking the Brazilian with the English outfit.

Another player the twenty-time Champions are targetting is unknown. However, there have been words that Solskjaer already has two players in his shortlist, with one being Douglas Costa to lure them to England in the upcoming month. Given the current problems at Manchester United, it makes sense to bolster the right-back department, with Antonio Valencia ageing and Matteo Darmian looking to leave the club in the near future.

The Italian has poured oil on the fire by saying, “I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now.

“I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country.”

Andreas Pereira, who had a great stint with Valencia during the last term has admitted that he would be open to moving to Brazil. The South American heavyweights Santos are showing interest on the Manchester United midfielder who is not getting proper game time at Old Trafford.

Soslkjaer has said that he would consult the Manchester United board to list down his targets and seek the player’s availability.

“I will have an input, of course,” he said on Friday.

“The job now is to get to know the players, observe them and see the qualities we’ve got.

“I’ve seen more or less every game from Norway, when I’ve had time from the other job. But to get to know the players and think ‘what can I improve them on’ – that’s my job.

“The club have got their recruitment and scouting, so I’m sure they’ve got their targets.

“But I’ve not sat down and talked about that, because my job is to get these players enjoying football.”

Manchester United will play Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford on boxing day as Solskjaer eyes two consecutive wins as the Red Devils manager.
