Solskjaer has shared his thoughts following the defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

Manchester United faced three defeats out of the last four games as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat them 2-1 at their own backyard to push for a place in the Europa League. Solskjaer’s men were dealt with a huge blow in their top four pursuit following the defeat at Molineux Stadium.

The Red Devils started the game brightly and lead the game through their academy graduate Scott McTominay. The hosts kept on fighting and got their deserved equalizer through their attacker Diogo Jota, thanks to a howler from the midfielder Fred who lost possession inside his own box.

Solskjaer’s men were soon down to ten men when Ashley Young received two yellows within a span of five minutes. An own goal from Chris Smalling in the 70th minute provided Wolves to lead the game for the first time and clinch all three points.

In the post-match press conference, Solskjaer felt that his side should have outscored the opposition and blamed his side for the mistakes which came back to haunt them.

Solskjaer said: “You tell me, it’s one of those days where we’ve done more than enough to score at least three goals. They’ve pounced upon our mistakes. I thought the lads played well today, we created a lot of chances. We conceded goals from sloppy mistakes, a couple of bad decisions.”

Manchester United made a decent start to the second half and Scott McTominay nearly got his second of the day. Rui Patricio parried the ball away to safety and Ashley Young received a red within few minutes after that particular incident.

“I thought we did well at the start of the second half, Scotty had a great chance and another great save from the keeper. We’ve done enough to win this game but that’s football. Solskjaer, “When you’re on a yellow you’re always taking a chance by going to ground.”

The Norwegian is confident about the prospect of finishing in the top four this campaign and has made a claim that his side would require 15 points to play Champions League football next campaign.

“We’ve still got 6 games to get those 15 points. We’ve just got to look forward and dust ourselves down. Disappointing result, very good performance.” said Solskjaer.

The manager reiterated that his side should have outscored the opposition and added on that he gave them license to take risks in this game.

“I trust the players to play in this way, but these things can happen when you take a lot of risks.”
