Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Son Heung-min wins Asian Games gold and earns military service exemption.

To all those who think that the career of any player can’t be decided on the basis of a single game and its outcome, well go ask the South Korean football team the same.

The less famous reds have not only secured a gold for their nation but also won an exemption from mandatory military services, the timeline being 2 years in the Republic of Korea.

In South Korea, every male is conscripted to indulge in military service for 18 months in the least, between the age of 18-35. This rule is not applicable, however, on athletes who perform exceptionally well in their sport. This includes a medal in Olympics, or a gold medal at the Asian Games.

South Korea’s win comes as a relief for Tottenham Hotspur fans, as the player has recently signed a new contract with the club. Son has also been a key player in the revival of Tottenham into a unit competing for Premier League title every season.

Son is likely to return to Spurs after the international break next week. Tottenham have made a strong start in the Premier League, winning all three of their games this season.

The 26-year old has only featured once for the London whites this season as he returned to fulfill the national duties at Jakarta.

The World Cup star who had pushed the last nail in Germany’s jaw at Russia, played an integral role for his nation in their victorious campaign. South Korea secured their place in the final after victories over Uzbekistan and Vietnam in the knockout stages.

The final was far from a cake walk. The young Japanese side that constituted of the U-23 members held the South Korean side for the first 90 minutes. They had to go into the extra time to get the winner. And rightly so the last one was assisted by Son himself.

A goal worth celebrating indeed. A goal that gifted his teammates a bright career up ahead. Truly a game, a moment, a goal is all you need to decide your career.
