Tammy Abraham injury Three potential replacements for Chelsea striker in FPL Gameweek 14

Tammy Abraham injury: Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that the young forward will not take part in the match vs West Ham.

Chelsea will take on West Ham at the Stamford Bridge this weekend. Having resumed their return to the Premier League with a loss to Manchester City and a Champions League draw with Valencia, the Blues will be keen for a victory.

However, they will be without the prolific Tammy Abraham. The 22-year old suffered a hip injury vs Valencia and Lampard has confirmed that he will miss out their match against West Ham. When asked how long he would be out for, Lampard replied:

We’ll know by the end of the weekend. He’s got some pain. He won’t be involved tomorrow, and we will see by Monday.

His injury is a setback to not only Frank Lampard but to several Fantasy Premier League players who have drafted the forward in their line-up. The youngster, who has already racked up 10 goals in the Premier League, features in juts under 50% of the teams in FPL.

This means that a large number of players will be affected by his absence, made even worse by the fact that we do not have any information on the duration of his recovery. While it would be better to wait for the complete report surrounding his injury, there are many, who would already be on the lookout for a replacement to balance their team.

Let us now take a look at the 3 men who could make it into your FPL team to replace Tammy Abraham after his injury.

#3) Raul Jimenez

Most FPL managers may have purchased Tammy Abraham at 7m. His price now stands at 8, which means that if you were to sell him from your side, you would be reimbursed with 7.5m. Unless you already have spare money and for some reason don’t already have Jamie Vardy in your side, the Leicester forward at 9.7m will be out of your reach.

Fortunately for you, Wolverhampton’s Raul Jimenez will cost you exactly 7.5m. The Mexican forward has been a points machine in the last few weeks racking up a massive 25 points in the last 3 matches alone. Wolves are set to play 3 relatively easier encounters including the match at home vs Sheffield United this weekend.

But don’t sweat over the big matches as his performance against Manchester City and Arsenal show that the greater the challenge the better, he actually performs, amassing 19 points from those 2 encounters alone. If Tammy Abraham sits out for long, Jimenez could be an ideal long-term replacement. However, should Abraham recover quickly and you want to buy him back, you will be left short by 0.5m.

#2) Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew is perhaps the most economical of the choices on offer. The Crystal Palace forward will constantly give you points and will only cost you 5.1m. The money you save by purchasing him can help you strengthen other areas of your team.

With Crystal Palace not facing either of the big 6 until January, in Ayew you have a safe option that would cost you almost next to nothing. However, the downside to getting Ayew is that while he provides you with a steady stream of points, it would be foolhardy to expect a double-digit performance from him.

It is advisable to look at your team before coming up with any decision. If you already have good enough strikers in your team, the Ayew would be the best back-up purchase for you. However, you can give this a miss if you’re looking for a striker that can harvest great points.

#1) Danny Ings

Danny Ings is the man that sits right between Jordan Ayew and Raul Jimenez. The Southampton forward’s 6.1m price is very economical for the points he has amassed. He already has 58 points to his name after 13 matches and has a tally of 15 points in his last 3 matches against Manchester City, Everton and Arsenal.

Ings would also be a viable first team choice should you, for some reason, decide to discard Tammy Abraham altogether. Southampton play relatively easy opponents in their next 5 games until they face Chelsea on 26th December.  By the time Southampton finish playing Watford, Norwich, Newcastle, West Ham and Aston Villa, you will likely have already got your money’s worth before Christmas.

Keeping him in your side will also give you the extra cash that you can redistribute in other areas that may need a look in. You may finally be able to buy a prolific goal scoring forward that has been wrongly categorized as a midfielder for that extra points.

All in all, the most ideal situation here would be to keep a hold on Tammy Abraham until there are more details surrounding his injury. However, if the worst happens, you already have replacements lined up for you. The fact that neither of the 3 have many takers means if and when they give you points, your mates probably won’t.

Chelsea will take on West Ham tomorrow at the Stamford Bridge. The Blues currently sit on 4th with 26 points and could move to 3rd tomorrow if they win and Manchester City lose against Newcastle United.
