The PlayStation Showcase is much grander than the State of Play and has a lot riding on it. The last Showcase was in 2021 and since then we have only seen State of Play livestreams and nothing more. However, a post recently blew off on Twitter which suggests that the next PlayStation Showcase, being held seemingly this year will dazzle audiences. We do not have confirmation if it will happen or not but, the signs do point to it happening. Let us see what information we have so far.
PlayStation Showcase Reportedly Happening This Year; Will Put ‘E3 to Shame’ with the Announcements
Before analyzing anything we have a couple of good events coming up in June, those are:
- Summer Game Fest – June 8
- Xbox and Bethesda showcase – June 11
- Starfield Direct – June 11
- Ubisoft Forward – June 12
Industry Insider Jeff Grubb previously suggested that the Showcase will happen before the Summer Game Fest which is before the 8th of June. The timeline is roughly a month long. That is why, Sony has lesser time to set up and announce the showcase. However, Sony hosted a State of Play a month ago which unveiled games like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and more. A lot of these games were received poorly. However, rumors suggest the best is yet to come.
In a Tweet by user Pyo, he suggested that Sony is planning to host their biggest-ever event in the form of the next PlayStation Showcase. It is meant to put E3 on the sidelines. However, the fans did not seem to bite this claim without a valid source. You can check out the thread for yourselves above.
Considering the number of releases Sony has up their sleeves, including a Horizon Third Game, a Spiderman 2 release, and a potential Wolverine game. It would be a nice time to unveil a PlayStation Showcase and generate hype, even though two out of these three games won’t be here for a while.
In all honesty, you should take this news with a grain of salt. Although, we will find out in the coming weeks if a showcase is bound to happen or not. What do you think? Is a PlayStation Showcase in the works? Let us know in the comments below! For more gaming news, click here!
