Florentino Perez opens up on VAR controversies surrounding Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos’ statements after the yellow-card incident.

Real Madrid have been facing a fair amount of controversies regarding VAR at the moment. After Atletico Madrid posted screenshots signifying the possibility of the technology favouring Real, the referee seemingly turned a blind-eye on Vazquez’s foul on Frenkie de Jong.

Moreover, video footage from the game against Ajax showed that Ramos allegedly asked the Real Madrid bench if he should take a yellow card!

We talked to the club’s president, Florentino Perez for his views on these controversies.

Hello, Mr. Perez. How are you?

Perez: I’m good, thank you. It’s been a rather hectic week, of course.

.. in what sense, Mr. Perez?

Perez: I travelled to Ajax to watch the game, came back and saw some negative headlines regarding Sergio’s statements.

Aah, yeah. Talking about the game at Ajax, there was significant controversy about VAR.

Perez: I want to review this question.

*VAR REVIEWING QUESTION.. QUESTION OVERTURNED!*

Aah, yeah. Talking about the game at Ajax, it was a good win, wasn’t it?

Perez: Yes, it was a great win. I must say, the Dutch side played good. But, obviously, they’re no match for the European champions, are they?

What do you think about the VAR?

Perez: It’s very helpful, of course. It’s the Real justice.

Sorry?

Perez: I mean the real justice.

Ajax’s fans weren’t happy with the real justice, though..

Perez: It depends. As I said, they played good. But there can be only one Real winner. I mean, one real winner.

Let’s talk about Sergio Ramos.

Perez: Great player. I see people these days compare him to Virgil van Dijk. I mean, it’s not even a match. Just put them on, shoulder to shoulder.

It’s only the Liverpool fans who say so, though.

Perez: “Shoulder to shoulder.”

Aah. You’re evil.

Perez: I think the word you’re looking for is ‘genius.’

Right, coming back to Sergio Ramos – he could face a ban for deliberately getting a yellow card..

Perez: Well, look. I’m not going to lie here. It hasn’t really been easy for all of us, but it’s time to reveal the truth.

Oh-kayy..

Perez: Sergio is a professional wrestler who plays football in free time.

Um, what?

Perez: Yes. Before the Champions League final against Liverpool, we gathered for a final team talk. Ramos excitedly said that he had actually put a steel chair behind the goal-post. We had a fight, then.

You fought with Sergio Ramos?!?

Perez: What? No, you fool. I told UEFA – ‘We are Real Madrid. If we want a steel chair, we want a steel chair.” They denied. But Ramos is a warrior. He came to me and said, “Don’t worry Mr. President, my arms are made of steel.” Rest is history.

Aah.

Perez: So yeah, he’s improving himself now. He asks the club’s bench before going into a tackle, as you saw against Ajax.

Well, he could be banned, you know.

Perez: It’s UEFA who bans the players.

Yes.

Perez: So..

Oh. Right.

Perez: You’re a slow learner.
