The Barcelona manager was far from happy with Klopp’s statement
Ensuing Liverpool’s sordid 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid, the side’s players were being put to the sword. The club’s supporters also took to question Jurgen Klopp’s decision making on the night with many beleaguered at the manager’s choice of substitutions.
However, rather than pouring insight into what went wrong for his team, Klopp decided to deflect the damage. And the route he chose for it was bemusing with the Liverpool boss deciding to level the blame for his team’s defeat on the size of Real Madrid’s stadium.
Real Madrid who were hosting Liverpool at the Di Stefano stadium owing to ongoing construction at the Santiago Bernabeu were lashed out by Klopp. The Liverpool manager persistently called the stadium as a training venue and said he was glad the second showdown would be contested at a proper venue.
“This here tonight was really strange because it was a difficult situation in the stadium, but Anfield is at least a proper stadium and that will be good for us,” Klopp had said.
Koeman Takes Contention With Klopp’s Comments
While Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane had refused to comment on Klopp’s views, Real Madrid have now found support in an unlikely figure. Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman has lent his voice to the club as he hit out at Klopp for his statement.
“Madrid are used to playing on that pitch and the opponents have to play there, and that’s that,” he told reporters. “For players the tough thing is playing without any fans.
“It’s disparaging to a big club like Madrid. They’ve chosen the time to do renovation works at their stadium and they’ve chosen well,” Koeman said.
Koeman is currently veering to take on Real Madrid in the league. The two customary rivals will be locking heads for the second time this season in what could end up being a defining moment in the title battle.
Both the clubs are in with a shout of winning the La Liga with Atletico Madrid losing their way horrifically. A win for either side would also give them the edge in this matchup with both the club currently sitting on the 97 wins apiece.
