P.V. Sindhu has done something incredible tonight. She has lifted the spirits of the entire nation by reaching the finals of the Women’s badminton event at Rio 2016. Sindhu has long been in the shadow of Saina Nehwal but this tournament has helped her carve a huge fan following for herself because of her extraordinary skill on the court. She is a star in the making and with so much time on her hands(she is just 21), the future of Indian badminton looks secured
From the time she walked on court today, it felt as if she owned the occassion, she was ready for it and she knew how to tackle it. The first set was back and forth for Sindhu as she had taken the lead early on but Okuhara fought back. But Sindhu played the big points better to knock off that first set.
The second set started off badly for Sindhu as she made 3 unforced errors but later recovered to go 11-10 up on the break. And after that it was all Sindhu. She took 10 points on the trot and then sealed the game with ease and authority.
Here are the best Twitter reaction from Sindhu’s historic win tonight
