Twitter reactions on Australia's three-wicket win against India

Twitter reactions on Australia’s three-wicket win against India: Twitter was nervous at the nerve-wrenching finish in the first T20I.

During the first T20I of the ongoing Australia’s tour of India at Visakhapatnam, Australia beat India by three wickets to go 1-0 up in the two-match series. The highlight of the match was its nerve-wrenching finish, something which was never expected.

After Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to field, the visitors restricted India to 127-7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Given the low-scoring total, Australia were expected to chase it comfortably especially after the start they received.

However, the business end of the match saw a role reversal as the Indian bowlers bowled tight lengths. The Australian batsmen’s attempt to play the big shots saw them returning back to the pavilion.

From requiring 29 runs in five overs with seven wickets in hands, the equation was reduced to needing 21 runs in three overs with five wickets remaining. Debutant Mayank Markande stood tall on the big occasion as he gave away only five runs in the 18th over.

With Peter Handscomb and Nathan Coulter-Nile on strike, the batting side still had the match in control. That being said, India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah being his usual self made things difficult for Australia.

Other than conceding just two runs in the penultimate over of the match, Bumrah also dismissed Handscomb (13) and Coulter-Nile (4) on the last two balls of the over. With 14 runs to defend in the last over, the onus was on fast bowler Umesh Yadav.

While Yadav gave away only a single on the first ball of the over, he conceded a boundary off Jhye Richardson on the next ball. A yorker on the following delivery saw the Australian batsmen run a couple of runs.

With seven runs required off three balls, Yadav erred in pressure as he bowled a couple of full-toss balls. The penultimate delivery of the over going for the second boundary in it changed things around for the visitors. Pat Cummins and Richardson running a couple of runs on the last ball of the over sealed the chase for Australia.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who came in to bat at No. 4, top-scored for Australia as he scored his sixth T20I half-century, 56 (43), with the help of six fours and two sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-16-3, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the Indian bowlers.
