Twitter reactions on Prithvi Shaw's third T20 half-century

Twitter reactions on Prithvi Shaw’s third T20 half-century: The rookie batsman returned back to form with a match-winning innings.

During Mumbai’s league match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Goa at Indore, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw returned to form after scoring his third T20 half-century.

After Goa captain Amogh Desai won the toss and chose to bat, Goa ended up scoring 140-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Desai, who opened the batting for his team, top-scored by scoring 38 (24) with the help of six fours and a six. With bowling figures of 3-0-19-1, Shubham Ranjane was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers.

Match-winning opening stand guides Mumbai

A 95-run opening partnership between Shaw and Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane propelled Mumbai to chase the target without much discomfort despite losing a few wickets in the middle.

In the stand between Shaw and Rahane, it was the 19-year old right-hand batsman who stole the limelight. Before getting out in the 13th over, Shaw ended up scoring 71 (47) with the help of five fours and seven sixes.

With middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav (24) and wicket-keeper batsman Aditya Tare (7) in the middle, Mumbai eventually sealed the chase in the penultimate over of the match.

Shaw’s last competitive match was the practice game before the Test series against Australia in December. After getting injured while fielding, Shaw was ruled out of the Test series. After his recovery, Shaw made a comeback into cricket in this tournament.

With returns of 10, 8 and 0 in the first three matches, Shaw’s form was becoming a concern for Mumbai team management. With him scoring a half-century now, a lot of nerves would have been eased. With the Indian Premier League also coming up, Shaw would be relieved to be back among the runs.
