It was an Austrian GP that not many had expected. Turn 1 was full of action with the top 5 interchanging places, but with Hamilton leading the pack and Bottas going strong behind him, it felt like it was going to be a long day at the office for both Ferrari and Red Bull.
However, the topsy-turvy race provided us with a lot of entertainment, as Mercedes’ error in judgement meant that Hamilton was kept on track during VSC and the one’s behind him managed to get ahead as they had pitted during the VSC.
Bottas’ retirement due to a gearbox issue had already created a lot of pressure in that Mercedes camp, and when Hamilton too pulled up due to a loss of power, the Mercedes camp was visibly distraught with what had transpired in Austria.
But Verstappen was the happiest of the lot, as he managed to win the Austrian GP, driving commendably all through and giving Red Bull its first win at the Red Bull ring in Austria.
Ricciardo was unlucky as he too had to pull up due to an issue.
The biggest gainers from the weekend have to be Vettel and Ferrari, as they managed a double podium and Vettel snatched the driver’s championship lead away from Hamilton.
