Twitter rejoices as Rafael Nadal beats Alberto Ramos to win the Monte Carlo Masters
Familiarity brings comfort, comfort brings self assurance and self assurance brings peace of mind. All of which is extremely necessary for athletes competing at the highest level. That’s why you see players performing better in home conditions than the hostile away ones. And when Rafa stepped onto that clay court, chasing his 10th Monte Carlo Masters, it just felt like he was at home, at peace with his surroundings and with himself.
The year had been a near perfect one, with the comeback working brilliantly, but he had no titles to show for it, thanks to a spirited Roger Federer. This was his chance to make the comeback complete, to get that title in, to get that familiarity back.
Nadal beat Alberto Ramos in two comfortable sets(6-1,6-3) to win his 10th Monte Carlo Masters. This is Nadal’s 29th ATP Masters 1000 Title(one shy of Djokovic’s 30) and the first time in the open era that a player has won 10 titles at the same tournament. Quite an incredible achievement.
The tournament had begun with a few doubts hanging in the air with respect to Nadal’s dominance on clay, and while it took some time for him to settle in, he surely looks in full control on the red dirt.
With 2 full months of clay events lined up, it looks like Rafael Nadal can soar really high in the rankings and maybe even give Andy Murray a run for his number one spot.
